Project Enable Africa on Monday 13th of July 2020, announced the appointment of Ms. Dolapo Agbede as the new Project Director of the foremost non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting the rights, empowerment, digital and social inclusion of Persons With Disabilities in Nigeria.
Ms. Dolapo Agbede will now join the management team of the organisation as the first woman to assume such a position since the establishment of the organisation in 2014. She was an ambassador of the NGO’s FollowDISACT Campaign before her appointment. The FollowDisAct Campaign has been far-reaching in engaging various stakeholders across sectors, while also sensitizing the society towards a positive behavioural change to disability issues.
As a disability inclusion advocate who has been instrumental to the progress of the FollowDisACT campaign which has been at the forefront of monitoring, tracking and driving the implementation of the Nigerian Disability Act, she said: “I strongly believe that everyone deserves a good quality of life and no one should be discriminated against on the account of their disability.“
“Our county now has a federal legal framework that promotes the social inclusion of persons with disabilities across all sectors and levels in the society; which also makes provision for the establishment of a National Commission for persons with disabilities (PWDs), however, if we don’t constructively engage the government and relevant stakeholders, we might not make the best of the Disability Act ”
Ms Agbede is one of the resolute advocates for mainstream solutions for disability inclusion, she coaches young people on the need for resilience.
Dolapo is a Program management expert with over 15 years of experience across ICT, Telecommunication and Development sectors.
Though She studied Electrical/Electronics Engineering at the prestigious Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, she later secured a Masters degree in International Law and Diplomacy at the University of Lagos.
She studied Project Leadership at Ivy League Cornell University, USA, she is also a member of the Green Economics Institute Oxford University, UK.
Presently Ms. Agbede is studying for a Masters in International Human Resource Management program at the Rome Business School in Nigeria.
Being a person with a disability, Ms Agbede has been leveraging her personal story of life with visual impairment since she lost her sight on 10th August 2007, due to Glaucoma. Dolapo’s vast experience in talent management makes her a leading consultant in diversity and inclusion for bespoke workforce solutions.
She is also a Neuro-Science enthusiast with global certifications in Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Behavioural Change Techniques, Mental Health First Aid, Emotional Intelligence and Yoga.
As an unapologetic humanist, whose personal mantra is synergy for excellence, Dolapo serves on several boards contributing strategic direction on youth centred matters and disability issues.
